Gidget is a four-year-old black Labrador Retriever. She was bred by Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, New York and was originally training to be a guide dog for a visually impaired person. She was released from their program at 18 months of age and returned to her puppy raiser, Kerry Birchall, who now handles Gidget in Wilderness Searches. Gidget and Kerry passed their Rhode Island State Police Certification in January of 2008, and are now certified and able to respond to searches. Kerry and Gidget are now training for Human Remains Detection.
